SURABAYA, KOMPAS.com – PDI-Perjuangan chose Armuji as a candidate for deputy mayor to accompany Eri Cahyadi in Surabaya Regional Election 2020.

Armuji is a member of the East Java DPRD from the PDI-P faction.

Armuji is not new to the party bearing the bull. The man who was born in Surabaya has served as chairman of the Surabaya DPRD twice, namely in 2003-2004 and 2014.

In the 2019 Legislative Election, the man who was born on June 8, 1965 tried to fight in the East Java DPRD from the election area of ​​Surabaya City.

He escaped with 136,208 votes.

With this acquisition, Armuji claims to be the winner of the most cross-party votes for the East Java DPRD level.

For the Surabaya Pilkada, Armuji has started socialization by installing a number of billboards at several points in Surabaya.

He has long paired his name with Eri Cahyadi on a number of billboards installed. He also registered as a candidate for deputy mayor of Surabaya through the East Java PDI-P DPD.

In early July 2020, Armuji was desperate to continue his struggle to become a candidate for vice mayor of Surabaya. He felt that someone was blocking his steps.

According to him, there were PDI-P Surabaya DPC administrators who prevented him from consolidating with volunteers and potential voters.

Armuji also sent a letter of resignation as a candidate for deputy mayor of Surabaya.

Withdrawing from his candidacy, Armuji admits that he wants to concentrate on helping the people of Surabaya who are struggling amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Yesterday, Armuji was surprised by the announcement of the PDI-P DPP. He did not expect to be chosen to accompany Eri Cahyadi.

Eri is a bureaucrat who is known to be close to the Mayor of Surabaya, Tri Rismaharini. Now, Eri is the Head of the Surabaya City Development Planning Agency.

Armuji admitted that he would immediately resign as a member of the East Java DPRD.

“In accordance with the applicable regulations, I will resign from the members of the East Java DPRD to concentrate on the Surabaya Pilkada,” Armuji said after the declaration at Taman Harmoni Surabaya, Wednesday (2/9/2020) afternoon.

Couple Eri Cahyadi-Armuji will face Machfud Arifin-Mujiaman who carried the fat coalition.

The coalition contains eight parties namely PKS, PKB, PPP, Nasdem Party, Golkar Party, Democratic Party, PAN and Gerindra Party.
