The Necker-Enfants Malades university hospital, of the Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris, is the reference pediatric hospital in France. Today it has all the medical and surgical specialties for children and a selection of specialized services for adults. It is also the headquarters of SAMU 75, AP-HP.
A reference center for many rare diseases and for heavy and complex pathologies, the Necker hospital radiates beyond Paris and the Ile de France: more than 20% of hospitalized patients come from the provinces or abroad.

Belonging to the APHP Intermediathèque Center network, the Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital media library is accessible to patients and staff. Its catalog offers a wide choice of books (novels, thrillers, comics, manga …) as well as DVDs and CDs for children and adults. Loans take place both at the media library and directly in the care services. Many cultural actions are also offered throughout the year in connection with current events (Printemps des Poètes, Open Days, etc.) as well as cultural partnerships (museums, tales, exhibitions, etc.)

It was born from the regrouping in 1926 of the Necker hospital – place of invention of the stethoscope and of the realization of the first kidney transplant – and of the Hospital for Sick Children, created in 1802 and the first establishment in the world dedicated to children. .

Necker Hospital has 400 beds dedicated to pediatrics and 200 beds for the Specialized Adult pole. Building on this originality, its teams have developed a high-level medical approach, supported by an exceptional synergy between the technical platform, research units and clinical units. More than 4000 professionals are dedicated to the care of adult and child patients.

In February 2013, the Necker hospital opened its “Laennec mother-child center”, with 5 floors and nearly 50,000 m2, bright and open. It houses pediatric surgery, pediatric resuscitation, emergencies, pediatric imaging, cardiology, nephrology, gastroenterology, maternity and neonatology.

Job Description

This mission is aimed at young volunteers aged 18 to 25. Its objective is to contribute to the implementation of the hospitality approach intended for patients and to improve their stay in hospital by more particularly promoting their access to the activities offered by the site’s multimedia library.

Young volunteers will be assigned to the Necker Hospital Media Library – Sick Children and will be entrusted more specifically with the following missions:
• Relay the media library’s offer to patients and promote their access (advice, loans and porting of documents)
• Participate in “click and collect” activities set up by the media library during the health crisis and pay particular attention to patients wishing to go to the media library and organize their support
• Participate in the implementation of the media library’s communication tools in the departments (participation in the production of communication supports, posters, feedback boxes, etc.)
• Participate in the various tasks of the media library (creation of a list of novelties, document equipment, storage, reception, etc.)
• Collaborate in cultural interventions in healthcare services (communication with patients and healthcare teams, posters, distribution of flyers, etc.)
• Welcome and support stakeholders (eg Musée Quai Branly, author-illustrators, bedside reading, etc.) and contribute to the communication concerning these interventions with patients in conjunction with the healthcare teams
• Participate in the design, and when sanitary conditions allow, in the organization of activities outside the hospital (museums, libraries, performance halls, etc.) and accompany patients on outings.
