Pr Jean-François Bergmann : Not only do I maintain my doubts, but I increase them! Because the first study, at least, was “controlled”, with a control arm certainly of poor quality, but there was an effort of comparison. The second study is a cohort of 80 patients, with no comparator arms; so it’s even worse! And to think that this second study reinforces the first is like believing that by adding bad to bad, you make good … It is desperate that academics lower themselves to this level of knowledge that I would put at the level of that of “gossip”. Fortunately, there are others who work seriously….
Dr J-F.L. : Is the drop in viral load important in this new study?
Pr Bergmann : There is indeed a significant drop in viral load; but remember that ALL patients will lower their viral load, regardless of whether it is the effects of the drug or time. This is why we require controlled tests! To find out if this observed decrease is earlier, stronger, more prolonged, more definitive than in the control group. If this is demanded, it is not to annoy researchers, but it is because it is the only way to know. What is terrifying is that it interferes with the work of others, patients refusing to enter into well-done trials, to be sure not to receive placebo instead of the active ingredient … These data are doubtful.
“It hinders getting the truth”
Dr J-F.L. : These incontestable studies should, according to the authorities, give results within 8 days. Nothing, however …
Pr Bergmann : No, no, it’s impossible, such a delay. It takes a large number of patients and not only focus on viral load, but also on improving symptoms, always comparing the two groups. It will therefore take several weeks.
Dr J-F.L. : What do you say to all these doctors tempted to prescribe in the name of “if it doesn’t do good it doesn’t hurt?” “
Pr Bergmann : I tell them that we have to go back to the fundamentals of recent years which have made us make major progress. Besides, we don’t know for sure if it “does not hurt”; there are two patients who died in the United States from an overdose of this product – and above all it hinders obtaining the truth, it is a denial of science …
