Professor em. Dr. Klaus Ganzer died

As announced by the University of Würzburg, on Thursday, October 14th, Professor Dr. Klaus Ganzer died at the age of 89. From 1972 until his retirement in 1999 he held the chair for Church History of the Middle Ages and Modern Times at the University of Würzburg. The holder of the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon was internationally known as a co-editor of various scientific publications, including the Lexicon for Theology and Church (LThK). The main focus of his research was the Council of Trent and the Catholic renewal movements of the 16th century, writes the press office of the Episcopal Ordinariate. In 1966 he qualified as a professor in the subject of church history in the Middle Ages and modern times. From 1966 to 1968, Ganzer taught as a university lecturer in Tübingen. Before moving to Würzburg in 1972, he was a professor in Trier for four years. From 1975 to 1977, Ganzer was also dean of the theological faculty in Würzburg.

Since 1988 he has been a member of the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz. In 1993 he became a corresponding member of the scientific society in Frankfurt. Until 1998, Ganzer was chairman of the working group of Bavarian church historians and church historians in the German-speaking area. In 1998 Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Papal Honorary Prelate.
