The Parralense community is in mourning after the death of the teacher Asunción “Chonito” Mendoza Montana, who died this morning at 4:00 a.m. at the Hospital de Jesús. Close friends and family reported that Professor Mendoza had remained in intensive care in recent days until unfortunately He lost his life this Thursday.

Professor “Chonito” Mendoza, as people knew him affectionately He left a great legacy in the education of Parral and the region. In 1964, together with his wife, Professor Alejandra Tarín Rodríguez, he founded the Cervantes Institute, a private institution that established itself as synonymous with academic excellence thanks to its educational offer in the careers of “Commerce” and “Executive Secretariat”.
Over the years the Cervantes Institute stood out not only for the quality of its students, but also for its impact on the community. Generations of young people passed through their classrooms, training under the vision of progress and excellence promoted by “Chonito” Mendoza, who was always committed to education and development of their students.
In addition to his career in education, Mendoza had a active participation in the public life of Parral. During the six-year term of then governor César Duarte, he served as coordinator of the Citizen Committee for Works, from where he supervised important infrastructure projects for the city, always ensuring the benefit of the people and transparency in the execution of the works.
In June 2014, Professor Mendoza was appointed executive director of the Municipal Water and Sanitation Board (JMAS) of Parral, a position he held until 2016, once again demonstrating his ability to lead and serve the city in different areas.
Professor Mendoza’s presence was also iconic in the city’s civic parades. Every year the people of Parral waited with enthusiasm for the showy presentations of the Cervantes Institute, which under his direction, became one of the most memorable attractions of these events. The displays of discipline and coordination of the Cervantes students were applauded by the citizens reflecting the leadership of “Chonito”.
Hoy Parral regrets the departure of a man who dedicated his life to education, public service and the well-being of his community. His legacy will live on in the generations of students he trained and in the contributions he made to the city development.
