He is an emeritus professor of Latin Philology at the University of Granada.
The University of Almería has awarded its “Honoris Causa” Doctorate to Andrés Pociña Pérez, emeritus professor of Latin Philology at the University of Granada (UGR), in an event held on October 18, in the Auditorium of the University of Almería.
Professor Pociña began his studies in Philosophy and Letters at the University of Santiago de Compostela. He continued at the University of Salamanca, where he earned a degree and doctorate in Classical Philology. Here he began his work as interim associate professor, first of Indo-European Linguistics and then of Latin Philology. In March 1976 he moved as a full professor to the University of Granada, where since September 1983 he has served as professor of Latin Philology. He is currently an honorary professor emeritus of the same.
As a researcher, he has carried out prestigious work on Latin theater, beginning with his doctoral thesis on “Sociological aspects of Latin theater.” There have also been many studies dedicated to the survival and tradition of classical theater, as well as to different Galician authors. On many occasions, Professor Pociña has participated in congresses, conferences and seminars.
In the field of management, he was dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, director of the Department of Latin Philology and president of the Granada Section of the Spanish Society of Classical Studies.
