Professional Tennis Players Clash with Pickleball Pro: Who Will Come out on Top?

Several professional tennis players such as James Blake, Andy Roddick and Nick Kyrgios have gotten into a discussion on social networks, with bets involved, with Christian Alshon, the man who claimed that pickleball demanded more from you than tennis.

Alshon, who is currently ranked 12th in the Pickleball Tour rankings, is a former tennis player who decided to change sports in June 2021, opting to pick up a pickleball racket. He recently spoke out against tennis, stating that pickleball had improved his athletic ability more than tennis.

Blake and other professional tennis players fight back

“Pickleball has made me a much better athlete than tennis. It requires greater reaction time and speed, since the ball only goes three meters away. Point for point, pickleball requires more skill than tennis,” wrote Alshon On twitter.

This led Blake, former world number 4, to respond to Alshon’s statements. Andy Roddick and Nick Kyrgios followed suit soon after.

“That may be because you were playing at a very low level of tennis. Perhaps if you knew the athleticism it takes to excel in this sport you would realize how ridiculous this statement is,” Blake wrote.

“Yes. Let’s hide under the bed after this statement hahahaha brother get me the best pickleball player and compare his talent to Roger Federer. Wild tweet, wild thought. Delete right now I love pickleball. But you had too many tequilas,” he responded Kyrgios on Twitter.

“I’ll tell you what. If someone with pickles ever reaches a higher position in tennis than they will [Jack] Sock later this year in his new paid pickle hobby, I will commentate on a pickle match standing on my head,” Roddick wrote.

Undeterred, Alshon counterattacked by inviting the trio of tennis players to pickleball duels with $100,000 at stake per match.

“@NickKyrgios @JRBlake @andyroddick how about this. I challenge you to three consecutive singles matches for 100,000 each. I’ll give you 2/1 odds which in your minds must be crazy good odds. You have 6 months to train. Don’t worry, I will donate my profits to charity,” Alshon wrote on Twitter.
