After being ahead on the scoreboard, Vélez Sarsfield tied 2-2 with Banfield this Sunday at the Florencio Sola stadium and it was not enough to take the lead in the table, for the tenth matchday of the Professional League.
Fortín started off ahead with goals from Francisco Pizzini and Claudio Aquino in the first half, but in the second half a double from Bruno Sepúlveda tied the game. In addition, Tomás Marchiori saved a penalty from Ignacio Rodríguez.
Liniers’ team did not have a good time at the start, but they could have opened the scoring thanks to a great collective play, caused by an error in the home team’s exit. A first-time pass from Bouzat to Aquino ended with a cross from Romero into the heart of the area for Pizzini to head home.
After another mishap in the back, Taladro almost scored the second if it weren’t for the poor aim of Thiago Fernández. Immediately after, Sepúlveda wasted an unbeatable opportunity with a shot to the outside of the net.
The second half was broken by Bouzat’s penalty on Matías González that Marchiori cleared with his feet. The Vélez goalkeeper again stifled Sepúlveda’s shout – who would later get revenge – just before Aquino’s goal that surprised Facundo Sanguinetti.
The difference was a bit exaggerated. However, in the third opportunity he had, Sepúlveda discounted with a header between Valentín Gómez and Emanuel Mammana.
Gustavo Quinteros’ team felt the impact and, in a counter-play, Sepúlveda scored the final 2-2 that calmed the waters in the stands at the Florencio Sola.
And in injury time the home team almost won with a cross from Sepúlveda himself that Roldán ran over without being able to put it in. In the end, Banfield rescued a point and thwarted Vélez’s climb to the top.
