There will be no appeal in the case of professional footballer Rai Vloet (29), who was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison last April for a fatal accident on the A4. He was also given a four-year driving ban.
Vloet has withdrawn his appeal. The Public Prosecution Service has subsequently decided not to appeal either, partly because of the interests of the relatives.
In the accident on November 14, 2021 near Hoofddorp, 4-year-old Gio Roos from Zoetermeer was killed. During the criminal hearing, Vloet admitted that he had drunk strong alcohol before getting into the car. At the time of the accident, Vloet was driving 193 kilometers per hour, where 130 was allowed.

At the time of the accident, Vloet was a player for Heracles Almelo. He also played for PSV and NAC, among others. Vloet was suspended by Heracles after the accident. He then left for Kazakhstan and played for the Russian club FK Oeral for some time.
After the relegation of this club, his contract was not extended and he returned to the Netherlands. During his period in Russia, Vloet had already indicated through his lawyer that he was prepared to serve his sentence in the Netherlands.
