Mexico City. On the second day of Buen Fin, the Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (Profeco) has reported 139 complaints, a lower figure compared to other years.
The agency headed by Iván Escalante Ruiz indicated that it has recovered a balance in favor of consumers for an amount of 839,223 pesos, due to the conciliation of 103 disagreements out of a total of 139.
He highlighted that 33 are still in process, two were not reconciled and one corresponded to another institution.
Mexico City heads the list of federal entities with the most claims, followed by the State of Mexico, Jalisco, Coahuila, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Nuevo León and Guanajuato.
The main complaint has been not respecting the advertised price, followed by non-compliance with the offer, promotion and delivery times, cancellation of the purchase, refusal of delivery and not having respected the price.
Walmart heads the list of suppliers with the highest number of disagreements, followed by Coppel, Bodega Aurrera, Soriana, Sam’s Club, Sears, Liverpool, Chedraui, Elektra
and Movistar.
In total, Profeco has provided advice to 6,135 people.
As part of the actions of the fourteenth edition of Buen Fin, Escalante Ruiz supervised compliance with the Federal Consumer Protection Law in a shopping center located in the Piedad Narvarte neighborhood, in the Mexican capital.
The attorney inspected that there was no misleading advertising, that the offers, promotions and discounts offered were complied with, so that guarantees, exchange and return policies were informed and respected.
In Mérida, Yucatán, Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano, president of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco-Servytur) went together with the governor of this federal entity, Joaquín Díaz Mena, to a department store to make “a symbolic purchase” as part of the Buen Fin activities.
“This initiative is key to reactivating our economy and generating jobs,” said the head of the state Executive before urging the population to take advantage of this opportunity to acquire quality products in a responsible manner.
In the first purchase in Yucatán, they purchased sports items that will be delivered to an association of people living with disabilities.
“By promoting responsible consumption and the purchase of Mexican products, we are generating a value chain that benefits all sectors of society. This joint effort between businessmen, the government and consumers is key to continuing to move towards a more solid and fair economy,” said De la Torre de Stéffano.

Are not only attractive but also promote responsible spending habits.
Welcome to World Today News! Today, we have two very special guests with us: Ms. Maria Garcia, an executive from Walmart, and Mr. Carlos Hernandez, a consumer rights advocate from the Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (Profeco). Thank you both for joining us today.
Firstly, Ms. Garcia, can you tell us about Walmart’s participation in Buen Fin this year? How has your company been promoting responsible consumption and consumer protection during the discount period?
Walmart has been very active during Buen Fin, offering great deals and promotions to our customers. We have ensured that all our prices are clear and transparent, and that our customers are well-informed about any additional costs or restrictions associated with the offers. We have also made sure that our staff is trained to handle any questions or concerns that customers may have during this period. As a responsible retailer, we understand the importance of meeting consumer expectations and providing a positive shopping experience.
Mr. Hernandez, as the head of Profeco, could you share with us the key findings from your agency’s work during the first two days of Buen Fin? Have there been any significant trends or concerns that have emerged?
During the first two days of Buen Fin, we have received 139 complaints, which is lower than in previous years. The main issues have been non-compliance with advertised prices, as well as delivery and cancellation policies. It’s encouraging to see that there haven’t been any major violations of consumer rights this year. However, it is important that both consumers and retailers remain vigilant to ensure a fair and transparent shopping experience for all.
Moving on to consumer behavior, how have people been responding to the discounts and deals offered during Buen Fin? Do you think there is a tendency towards impulsive or irresponsible spending?
Consumers are definitely taking advantage of the discounts and deals available during Buen Fin. We have seen an increase in foot traffic in shopping centers and retail stores across the country. While some may indulge in impulsive spending, we believe that most consumers are making conscious efforts to purchase quality products at reasonable prices. It’s up to retailers to ensure that their offers
