Prof. Vanya Dobreva: Today’s time destroys tradition, puts a cross on memory and on what makes us Bulgarians – 2024-02-19 14:38:30

/ world today news/ Today’s time is a time that destroys tradition, puts a cross on memory and on what, in the end, makes us Bulgarians. This was said by Prof. Vanya Dobreva during the “Demography and Cultural Identity” discussion organized by SINPI, which took place in Blagoevgrad on the eve of May 24 – the Day of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture, and of Slavic literature .

According to her, our alphabet, which found a haven in the old Bulgarian culture, was then preserved, developed and enriched to the north of us – in Russia.

“From this culture, our revivalists in the era of the 19th century learned and understood what freedom is, what beauty is, what poetry and drama are, and with this knowledge they ennobled our Fatherland. They discover a huge amount of knowledge about who we Bulgarians are in the books that are kept in the Russian monasteries”, pointed out Prof. Dobreva, who hours earlier received the annual award for 2022 of the Union of Bulgarian Writers for Literary Criticism.

During the event, the exhibition “Macedonia in cartoons” was presented, dedicated to the 145th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Bozhinov – cartoonist, military photographer and writer, who in 1930 published his cartoons on the subject of Macedonia.

The exhibition, which will be visiting the Regional History Museum in Blagoevgrad for the next two weeks, has been prepared by a scientific team of Unibit, led by Prof. Dr. Vanya Dobreva, under a project of the Scientific Research Fund “Between the Comic and the Tragic – Alexander Bozhinov”.

“The most suitable place for such an exhibition is in Blagoevgrad, because I am sure that the question of Macedonia, of what is happening there, of our relations with the Republic of North Macedonia, is passing through the souls of each of you”, noted Prof. Boryana Bužashka, who is part of the author’s collective.

She explained that after the peace treaty of Noi, when we lost Bulgarian lands that were so dear to us, including Macedonia, the artists, the Bulgarian intelligentsia did not go to rallies, but tried in their own way to express their feelings about what was happening with the Bulgarian population on these lands.

“It’s like that’s still relevant nowadays. In Božinov’s cartoons, you will find the contemporary sound of what we hear and read every day, that is happening to the Bulgarians in the Republic of North Macedonia”, says Prof. Bužashka.

The chairman of the Strategic Institute for National Policies and Ideas, Dr. Kaloyan Pargov, pointed out that the topic of demography is interdisciplinary and cannot be considered unilaterally.

“We cannot talk about cultural identity in isolation, without taking into account regional development, connectivity, infrastructure, education, the economy, the security of the environment in which we live, adolescents and their upbringing, health and birth rates. They are part of the general picture and environment, which must be in sync and balance, in order to have prerequisites that instill in every person the feeling of social optimism, perspective and development,” Pargov is convinced.

He also introduced the other members of SINPI who took part in the meeting with the Blagoevgrad public – Prof. Arch. Ivan Danov, Doncho Atanasov, Hristo Monov, Plamen Milev, Daniela Vezieva, Valentin Nikolov, Chavdar Minchev and Dimitar Penkov.

According to Doncho Atanasov, who is the former chairman of API, the road infrastructure is extremely important for demography and for the development of the regions.

“The development of the infrastructure in the Blagoevgrad region is very important for Bulgaria. The region borders two neighboring countries,” he said and added that it is still unclear when the Strumyani Municipality will be connected to Macedonia.

Atanasov explained that during the time when he headed the API, a route was chosen for the construction of the “Struma” highway through the Kresnen gorge, which guaranteed the most ecological and economically defensible development.

“Our first task as a people, as a nation, as politicians is to preserve the Bulgarian population on the Bulgarian territory,” said Prof. Danov categorically.

He said that in order to preserve the population and increase it, it is necessary to work in extremely many areas – both for physical growth of the population, as well as in the field of education and the field of economy.

“Bulgarians should recognize our country, like it, see the future of the generations in it, and these generations should be happy that they live here,” declared Ivan Danov.

According to Hristo Monov, national identity, gender identity and gender identity are the basis of a healthy personality.

“Curriculums have been crippled and things that are the basis of national identity have fallen out of them,” he believes.

Monov drew attention to the fact that this year only 47,000 children attended the optional matriculation, which most of the students attended. “This graduating class, which graduated today, is about 75,000 people. “Between 25 and 28 thousand of those born in 2004 will not finish secondary education,” warns the psychologist.

“One of the ways out of this trend is, since we don’t have enough children, to work on increasing their personal quality. This is one of the missions of SINPI”, announced Hristo Monov.
