In an opinion piece in the newspaper “Haaretz”, Professor Sami Shalom Sheetrit attacks the settler public and calls for the establishment of a Palestinian state with the possibility of a “not easy civil war against 50 thousand settlers who will oppose the large evacuation”. Shalom Shatrit adds and writes that in the theoretical case of an armed conflict it will be mandatory to “subdue them to the ground so that they do not raise their heads for a hundred years”.
“It will be scary, because we may go through a civil war with the settlers on the way”
Professor Shalom Shetrit, head of the School of Voice and Screen Arts at Sapir Academic College, calls in an article to create a new and broad political bloc that he says will not include the right-wing camp, the settlers and the ultra-orthodox public, and excluding all of them “needs to enter into negotiations for a comprehensive solution” with the Palestinians in order to establish a Palestinian state.

“Immediately with the formation of a government without a nationalist right, settlers and ultra-Orthodox should enter into negotiations for a comprehensive solution,” he writes, “it will be scary, because we may go through a difficult civil war along the way against 50,000 settlers who will oppose the large evacuation.”
The professor’s alternative: “to wait for the empire to come to the province to make order”
In the rest of the column, Shalom Sheetrit lists two possibilities that he predicts for the future, an internal struggle that will lead to an alternative government or to wish for one of the world’s empires to make internal order within the country. “Every republic is born twice – once out of an external struggle and once after a painful internal struggle. Another option: let the business fall apart and wait for the empire to come to the province to force order. It’s up to us,” he writes.
