Prof. Nikolay Ovcharov before MEPs in Strasbourg: Revival process against Bulgarians in RSM

Our scholars have presented arguments in defense of our history and language

They brought 200 books published by BAS on language and history

In the Republic of Northern Macedonia there is a kind of revival process towards the Bulgarians there in recent decades. This thesis was defended by Prof. Nikolay Ovcharov during the talks of the Bulgarian delegation of scientists in the European Parliament today.

Along with him in Strasbourg were Prof. Plamen Pavlov, Prof. Ana Kocheva and Assoc. Prof. Spas Tashev as part of the National Circle “For Macedonia”. At the end of last week, they presented in Sofia a memorandum from more than 19 prominent Bulgarian scientists, intellectuals and journalists to all EU countries, which contains scientific arguments justifying Bulgaria’s position on the RSM’s veto. It is explained exactly why we do not agree with the theft of history and language.

“If we, the Bulgarians, today recognize the illegal demands of the PCM, what will we say to our children. In this way we will deprive them of the history of their people, written not only by Bulgarians, but also by Byzantine, Old French, Old German, Old Russian and other chroniclers. And you yourself, do you really want to accept unconditionally in our great union a country that has built its past by stealing and falsifying history? We are convinced that this cannot be true! Because it contradicts the philosophy of the European Union itself, established by the Maastricht Treaty of 1992. We, the Bulgarians, believe in its values and will uphold them to the end! “, Reads part of the document written by the circle” For Macedonia “.

It was on the memorandum that the meetings in Strasbourg took place today, but our scientists also touched on other topics. Their presentation was carefully listened to and well received during the discussions.

The first round of talks was with the Western Conservatives and Reformists’ Western Balkans group. “Eight of our MEPs were present in the hall, as well as 10 of their colleagues from other EU member states, but there were also 300 online viewings of MEPs who were not in the hall, but saw and heard what we were saying,” said Prof. Ovcharov.

“Prof. Ana Kocheva gave the main presentation, extremely well-argued, not only about the language, of course, although she is a specialist, but also on all issues related to history. I emphasized in my speech the revival process towards the Bulgarians in the RSM. Assoc. Prof. Spas Tashev speaks many important things about human rights to date and the falsifications that were made during the last census in the PCM, and before. Prof. Plamen Pavlov also specified the issues of historical knowledge “, said Prof. Ovcharov.

In the afternoon, the program also included meetings with Bulgarian representatives in the European Parliament and participation in EP meetings.
Our delegation has brought to Strasbourg about 200 books – publications of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, on the language and the Macedonian identity.
