The short incubation period of the Omicron variant is a problem because it spreads the infection faster. This is what prof. Todor KantardzhievProf. Dr. Todor Veselov Kantardjiev, MD, graduated from the Medical Academy – Sofia in 1981, as, vaccination consultant at the Sofia Municipality. According to him, the incubation period of this variant is two to three days, during which the infected person begins to cough and sneeze, releasing the virus. In a few days, the spread of Omicron will probably increase due to the gathering of people over the past holidays, visits to resorts, and among returnees from abroad, he added.
Everything on the topic:
Omicron – the new coronavirus variant 342
–Combined infection – influenza with coronavirus, is possible, but extremely rare, said Prof. Kantardzhiev. Omicron has been shown to be more difficult to infect lung tissue, which is good, and precisely because it has “no affinity” for lung tissue, it is mild, he added. According to him, the biggest problem now is the temporary incapacity of those infected, as people are not seriously ill but have not been at work for about ten days. Measures must be taken now, Kantardzhiev stressed.
The percentage increase in the number of patients will be clear next week. So far, the number of cases of Omicron is increasing, albeit slightly, in Sofia, Pernik, Blagoevgrad and Sofia region, said Prof. Kantardjiev.
Prof. Kantardzhiev described the infection with vaccinated and booster doses of Omicron as follows: positive PCR tests show that two or three days the infected will release the virus, which, however, will be in very small quantities and will suffer from runny nose, sneezing and mostly headache.
During a meeting at the Ministry of Health today, which passed in a friendly and well-meaning spirit, it was not a question of closing children’s institutions or schools, commented Prof. Kantardjiev. We were all unanimous that we must preserve the health of children without stopping the learning process, especially for the youngest. Children who complain of sore throats, have a runny nose or fever, should not go to school, said Prof. Kantardzhiev.
