He confirmed that the new sub-variant of Omicron is more contagious, but is unlikely to lead to more serious illness.
“The highest number of registered cases of Omicron is in Blagoevgrad, where the incidence is highest. I expect it to burn out and the cases to start decreasing. Something that will start happening in Sofia in a week, and in Plovdiv – an increase in cases, “said Prof. Kantrdzhiev.
The expert described the regional measures as positive and timely. According to him, the specialized vaccine for Omicron is more suitable for people with proven immune deficiency. He expects the new drug to increase the number of people willing to be immunized.
“Cells magazine published an article proving that people vaccinated with previous vaccines – the built-in cellular immunity protects them from all known variants of the coronavirus. “Omicron will pass through more than half of Europe’s population, and the epidemic will become an endemic,” he added.
Prof. Kantardjiev commented that the business is tired of the measures of the official cabinet and that is why they are now reacting in this way.
