Prof. Ivo Petrov: COVID creates heart problems, but mainly in unvaccinated people

The main risk of complications in patients with COVID-19 is related to the cardiovascular system and this fact has been proven by numerous studies and statistics. This was explained in “Speak Now” on BNT by Prof. Ivo Petrov, a cardiologist and a member of the Expert Council on Cardiology at the Ministry of Health.

COVID can “trigger” the complication of a relatively stable cardiovascular condition and this is mainly in the unvaccinated, explained Prof. Petrov to the national media.

According to him, in the so-called a cytokine storm follows uncontrolled thrombosis. Therefore, there should be synergy between the specialists in the different specialties for the treatment of the patient, added Prof. Petrov.

There are protocols that prevent complications, so in this aspect we are ahead in understanding the pathophysiology of the disease.

As an example of this, Prof. Petrov pointed to a case from 2-3 weeks ago, when doctors saved a 90-year-old woman with COVID and thrombosis in the brain.

My whole family has been vaccinated – starting with my mother and ending with my 15-year-old son. I believe in science, Prof. Petrov is categorical.

He added that a very high percentage of medical professionals at his hospital have also been vaccinated.

Unfortunately, in Bulgaria it turned out that the fourth wave is the most severe.

Globally, 52% of the population is vaccinated, and note that in Bulgaria it is only 26%. People had to be exactly positively informed about what the vaccine is and make the right decision, explained Prof. Petrov.

We all know – there will be a fifth wave and we must prepare for what lies ahead, he added.
