The former caretaker prime minister shocked the host of the morning show “This Saturday”
Professor Ognyan Gerdzhikov is a highly respected Bulgarian lawyer and politician. The ex-caretaker prime minister lashed out at a bTV presenter over the way the broadcaster spells its name.
After a rain of reproaches and questions about whether the media is ashamed to write in Cyrillic, the presenter Zheni Marcheva tries to change the subject. Here’s how the scandalous dialogue between the two goes:
“Why is your television bTV written in Latin letters? Why not in Bulgarian letters – in Cyrillic?” he asks the host.
“Sometimes it is also written with Bulgarian Cyrillic letters,” Marcheva replies.
“It’s almost always in Latin, your logo is in Latin, you’re in Latin. Why? Are you ashamed? Is the television ashamed of being a Bulgarian television?”, asks the former acting prime minister even more sharply.
“No! bTV is not at all ashamed of being a Bulgarian television station!”, the host of “This Saturday” replies indignantly.
“Then why is your title in Latin,” Prof. Gerdzhikov insistently asks again.
“Do you have any other questions,” countered Marcheva, already slightly irritated, but with a smile.
“This is my main question, and I very much ask you to let it reach the management of the television station,” he said categorically.
“It’s already listening to you right now,” Marcheva replies.
So, let him listen, because this is also a violation of the law. You are registered in Bulgarian, that’s your name. You may write in Latin, but that’s all you do,” Gerdzhikov concludes sharply.
