Why did the Minister of Health Kostadin Angelov refuse to tighten the measures against the spread of K-19? Today at the regular press conference he and representatives of the National Operational Headquarters (NSS) described an extremely complex situation related to a sharp increase in the number of infected people in Bulgaria.
A Flagman reporter asked the minister if the prime minister was stopping him from imposing restrictions.
“A lie – a definite one,” said Kostadin Angelov. “No one is stopping me and no one has ever stopped us from taking any action. On the contrary, we have always listened to what the experts tell us, “he added.
Regarding the accusations against Angelov that as a candidate he is conducting a hidden campaign in the media, the publication asked him if he could not transfer his responsibility as a minister to one of his five deputies.
“I will not do it because I have sworn clearly and precisely in the National Assembly in all my actions to be guided by the interests of the people. And then, when something happens in my country that is on my shoulders, you will not ask the Deputy Minister and my responsibility will not fall, but you will ask me again and you will ask why I did this. No!
I will take responsibility to the end and I have told you many times. And who blames me for anything – has the right to do everything. Democracy allows free opinions to spread everywhere, “Kostadin Angelov replied.
Before that, he again explained that he was not resigning as a candidate – he was first on GERB’s lists in Varna and Veliko Tarnovo. Angelov withdrew only from the campaign. And in his media appearances, he would only talk about health issues, not politics.
Angelov and Chief State Health Inspector Angel Kunchev said they were ready to tighten measures. According to Kunchev, however, it would not make much sense if the population was not convinced of the need for them.
We are not afraid of imposing measures. If necessary, we will do it, Kostadin Angelov assured after a cascade of reporters’ questions on the topic.
