Apple has therefore also stopped a large number of products in 2022. In particular, older devices that have not received an update for years have suffered this year. We show you which products Apple has said goodbye to in 2022. These are products that Apple no longer sells itself and are slowly disappearing from the complete range, not devices that do not yet have a successor.

#1 iPod touch (and with it the iPod brand)

“The music continues”. This was the title Press release with which Apple marked the end of iPod touch and with that iPodsbrand as a whole. On May 10, Apple discontinued the iPod touch and was only available while supplies lasted. It didn’t take long, because a few days later the stock was already sold out. The iPods Touch 7th generation was therefore the last iPod ever. This model was announced in May 2019 and only got an improved chip and extra storage capacity version. The update wasn’t spectacular, but it was still around for three years. Whether we’ll ever see the brand again remains to be seen.

#2 Larger 27 inch iMac

Apple replaced the 21.5-inch in 2021 iMac in the newest, fastest, best-looking 24-inch iMac with M1 chips. But the 27-inch version with the old design and Intel chip remained in the lineup. Until March of this spring, when Apple really pulled the plug on this model. With the introduction of the MacStudio and the Studio display, Apple apparently no longer felt it necessary to keep the 27-inch iMac. Although in reality it is not yet a direct successor. Rumors of a new, larger iMac have been circulating for some time, and it could still see the light of day in 2023.

#3 iPhone Lightning-dock

One accessory that has been around for a long time is Apple’s Lightning dock iphone. Apple has been around since the beginning of iphone released docks themselves, where you can charge the iPhone. In 2015, three years after the arrival of the Lightning port, the Lightning dock was also created. In the following years, in addition to a white plastic version, an aluminum one was also introduced in several colors, including silver and space gray. We are still fans of this dock and even in 2022 it looks stylish. In any case it is still used regularly at our headquarters. But that was enough for Apple, because in February of this year, the product pages of several regional Apple Store sites disappeared, and it is nowhere to be found in other stores.

#4 Beats Pill+

The Beats Pill is the only portable speaker in the Beats range, which has been part of Apple for years. In January of this year, Beats Pill+ was removed from the Apple Store, with no successor. It was also no surprise that Apple stopped it. The speaker has never had support for this AirPlay. There was going to be a successor, but that never happened. However, a customized version surfaced on the Beats Twitter account last August, but we haven’t heard from since. In any case, the speaker hasn’t been on sale from Apple since earlier this year.

#5 Apple Watch Series 3 (in the Nike+ Edition)

We would almost say: finally! Finally, last September, Apple stopped selling the Apple Watch Series 3. While there are long and wide successors available, Apple has kept this model with the oldest design in the lineup as a cheaper alternative. But as far as we’re concerned, that cheaper alternative has been around for years, namely in the form of apple watch SELF. Apple stayed there Apple Watch Series 3 also still on sale when it was known that the watch had been updated watch OS 9 would not get. Then the new one Apple Watch SE 2022 (second generation) was announced, even thought Apple enough. As far as we are concerned, a year late, because already inside In 2021, we thought the Apple Watch Series 3 was a bad buy.

Special Apple Watch Nike+ it has also not been available since last September. Since watch OS 9 you’ll find all Nike faces on all Apple Watch models, and Nike bands can even be combined with regular models at the time of purchase thanks to Apple Watch Studio. You could always wear them with any model, but if you wanted a specific Nike band when buying a new Apple Watch, you had to go for the Apple Watch Nike as well. Now it is no longer necessary.

At the same time, Apple also pulled the plug on the Apple Watch Edition, although that version hadn’t been available in the Netherlands and Belgium for years. The Apple Watch Edition it was the most luxurious version of Apple Watch models in recent years. The first generation appeared in real gold, while later editions were released in ceramic and titanium. But with the advent of Apple Watch Ultra in titanium, the need for a special edition Apple Watch in titanium was much less.

#6 Apple TV HD

Of Apple TV HD it had a long life. Originally this model was released in 2015 as fourth generation AppleTV and it was the first ever to work tvOS and one of his App Store I had. In 2017 it was replaced by the Apple TV 4Kbut in the years that followed, the Apple TV HD In the assortment. It has even been renewed, at least the supplied remote control. Apple has always included the latest remote with Apple TV HD, even the second generation Siri Remote control since 2021. The Apple TV HD itself has remained unchanged, with the same A8 chip as when it appeared in 2015. #7 These stopped too (but had a successor)
