Production of the iconic giant 747 aircraft is ending, Boeing confirmed

CEO Dave Calhoun told employees that the production of the aircraft will end in 2022. The end of production in 2022 has been talked about for a long time, now the company has officially confirmed the information for the first time, Reuters reported.

Over 1,550 of these aircraft have been produced in half a century, but in recent years interest in this type of aircraft has slowly declined. The Airbus A380 played a role in this, and since the autumn of 2007 it has been the largest passenger transport aircraft. However, last February, Airbus announced that it would end production of the A380 in 2021.

Over the years, the Boeing 747 underwent a number of improvements, the first variant was called the 747-100 and through versions 200 and 300 led the way to the “four hundred”, which was put into operation in the late 80’s. The most recently introduced in 2010 was version 747-8.

The global pandemic of covid-19 caused a sharp drop in demand for air transport. Many airlines have therefore decided to stop flying with these machines.
