The minister explained: in a military sense, this goal must be achieved in such a way that we can be independent from supplier risks. In other words, a serious defense industry must be built, namely in such a way that it not only serves the development of the armed forces, but also the development of the Hungarian economy as a whole. He stated that Hungary views Turkey as a strategic partner in this regard.
He also indicated that the assembly of the Gidrán combat vehicle had already taken place in Hungary, as the additional radar and weapon systems were integrated in Kaposvár for the basic vehicle manufactured by Nurol Makina. This activity will remain in Kaposvár, he added.
However, from now on, he explained, the vehicle itself will also be manufactured in Hungary, namely in Győr at the Rába company. Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky called this a “very big step forward” because it would not only satisfy the needs of the Hungarian National Guard, but would also create an export product.
The agreement will create new jobs. It has been said that at least 200 new jobs will be created as a result of the agreement just signed, and a wide network of suppliers will also be involved in production.
They also agreed that the created joint venture will be named Gidrán – announced the minister, adding that the gidrán is an ancient Hungarian breed of horse, which was used by the hussars because of its good fighting ability.
