Most of the workers trapped in the floods in factories and dormitories were rescued, but it is not clear how long production will start again
BEIJING (ANTARA) – The production of Apple’s iPhone 13 smartphone series is expected to be hampered by the flood disaster in Zhengzhou City, China, which has so far claimed the lives of 33 local residents.
“Most of the workers trapped in the floods in factories and dormitories were rescued, but it’s not clear how long production will start again. We haven’t been told when they will be able to work again,” said an employee at Foxconn, the Apple vendor that manufactures iPhones, in Zhongmou. , Zhengzhou City, quoted by the Global Times, Saturday.
Of the three Foxconn factories in Zhengzhou, Zhongmou was the most severely affected by the floods that occurred on Tuesday (20/7), local media reported.

The water level in Zhongmou reached the necks of adults and about 1,000 Foxconn employees were trapped in the factory’s dormitories.
The supply of electricity and clean water was cut off. Various devices and automatic machines enter water, as reported by jiemian.com.
Several other Foxconn-owned factories in the capital city of Henan Province have already started operations.

However, one main factory in Zhongmou that produces USB cables is still not operational.
Zhengzhou, located in central China, is the iPhone’s largest city.
Worse yet, the entire transportation network in the city has not yet recovered, so this also hampers the distribution process for iPhone products.
Foxconn’s three factories in Zhengzhou, which employ 350,000 employees, are capable of producing half of the world’s iPhone brand smartphones.
Foxconn has received most of the orders to assemble the iPhone 13, which is set to hit the market in September.
