Production at VDL Nedcar will stop at least until Thursday after hack

Industrial group VDL takes into account that a large part of its activities will be at a standstill for days to come. Several VDL Groep companies have been partially unable to produce since last night due to a digital attack.

VDL Nedcar in Born was also affected. The company could start up again next Thursday at the earliest, a spokesperson confirms The Limburger. “It would be fantastic if we could resume production in Born on Thursday,” a spokesperson for VDL Groep told NOS.

Everything still under investigation

For the past two days, thousands of company employees stayed at home. The group is still not making any statements about production at other VDL companies and about which parts of the company have been affected. “Everything is still under investigation,” the spokesperson told De Limburger.

According to the paper, experts say everything indicates that the central IT system has been taken hostage. VDL will not say whether a ransom has been demanded.

Not all VDL Groep companies have been affected to the same extent. The group includes 105 companies. There are locations in Asia and America, among others. Worldwide, the industrial group employs more than 15,000 people.
