The wines produced at Croix Mouton are wines of pleasure, excellent when young. Made up almost entirely of Merlot, they are delicious and fleshy, easy to drink but with finesse and they finally offer us a succulent expression of tangy red fruits on the palate. Once the first vintage was released, it didn’t take long for Château Croix Mouton to be recognized and described as excellent value for money by Bordeaux wine professionals.

AppellationThe AOC Bordeaux Supérieur is a regional AOC, like the AOC Bordeaux. The wines of this appellation can also come from the entire Bordeaux wine region. To claim the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation, the wines must meet even more rigorous quality criteria than those of the Bordeaux AOC. Compared to Bordeaux, the alcohol content is 0.5% higher, the yield is lower and the aging time is longer. The quality of Bordeaux Supérieurs is better and less variable than in other generic appellations. These wines present a more favorable quality/price ratio.

The AOC Bordeaux Supérieur applies to red wines but also to white wines.

RegionThe historic Bordeaux vineyard is located in the Gironde department. It produces, in a temperate and humid climatic context, a wide range of red wines and white wines, dry and sweet, some of which are considered the greatest wines in the world. These are also very long-lasting wines. With its 119,000 ha and its 60 appellations, the Bordeaux region represents the largest French AOC vineyard.

Three large geographical areas are distinguished to define the Bordeaux vineyard: the left bank, south of the Garonne, the right bank north of the Dordogne, and Entre-deux-Mers which is located, as its name indicates , between the two rivers. On the edge of the Atlantic coast, the Bordeaux vineyards present very different landscapes to the west and east. To the west, the vast plateau which slopes gently towards the sea carries the very famous vineyards of Médoc, Graves and Sauternais, as well as the very large Landes forest which separates them from the ocean. To the east are located in particular the vineyards of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, the landscape is more undulating with well-defined valleys, but without severe slopes, and an altitude rarely exceeding 100m.

The main red grape varieties in the Bordeaux region are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The three white grape varieties are Sémillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle.

Bordeaux inaugurated the notion of classification in 1855 under Napoleon III, synonymous with quality and prestige throughout the world. The principle of classified growths perfectly illustrates the synthesis of the typicality of a terroir and the work of men over several generations in the service of quality. However, the absence of classification does not prevent a Bordeaux appellation or vintages from being considered very great wines.
