The promising idea of producing Sputnik vaccines for the public sector interested the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Luis Castiglioni, who called a meeting with members of Cifarma.
“Paraguay has a laboratory installed for the production of Sputnik vaccines,” said Gerardo García Saguier, president of the Chamber.
“The pharmaceutical industry is in a position to meet the needs of the country, regarding the drugs that are being used for COVID-19,” said the manager.

This industry is supplying, for example, midazolam and atracurium, but they want to take a more than gigantic step because they feel capable of manufacturing Russian-origin vaccines “Sputnik V” in our country.
“We are all interested in the offer of Sputnik vaccines from the Government of Russia, and the possibility of manufacturing at the country level. We told the minister that there is an industry installed within the country, the LASCA-Vicente Scavone company, which has a laboratory for biotechnological products, and that it is in a position to produce these vaccines, if authorization is obtained, “he argued.

They want to start a production of 500,000 monthly doses in an estimated time of four to six months. “Minister Castiglioni promised to help us in the management and see if it can be done,” said the president of the Chamber.
The representative of the local pharmaceutical industry stressed that they depend on the owners of the production, the patent and are open for that realization.
Participating in the meeting were Estafanía Laterza, Rediex’s national director, and Ramiro Samaniego, MIC’s vice minister of Industry.
