With their thoughts on Rebel Moon not being part of Star Wars, its producers Deborah Snyder and Eric Newman told during a recent press conference for the upcoming film.
As already known, the director of 300 Spartans, Watchmen and Batman v Superman originally wanted his sci-fi film in the spirit of Seven Samurai to become part of the Disney franchise. He proposed the idea to the company many years ago, but insisted that the blockbuster receive an R (Adults Only) rating, which was the reason for the refusal of the corporation’s leaders. This movie was supposed to be part of Star Wars at one time, but I never wanted that. I remember saying to Zach, “I feel like your hands will be tied, you will be too attached to what this franchise should be.” Even if the film in many ways existed as if out of this world.
So in a way I was happy that this plan failed, because I always thought that it would only get better. We’ve learned a lot over the years working with superheroes and creating their worlds, and now we’re working on something completely original… We think it’s more science fantasy than science fiction. The plot of the film will unfold in a remote corner of the galaxy and tell about a mysterious girl named Cora, who is trying to raise an army to repel the cruel tyrant Balizariy.
The release of the first tape will take place on Netflix on December 22, 2023, and the second one is planned to be released on April 19, 2024.
