With the aim of supplying local and regional markets, producers from the Quisma and Matilla Valleys focus on activities such as the production of organic date palms, native trees, humus and livestock, applying advanced irrigation and natural fertilization technologies in the middle of the desert.
The regional director of Corfo, Catalina Cortés, visited these initiatives in the middle of the desert and valued their proposal. In addition, she presented instances of support for agricultural entrepreneurs, such as incorporation into the “Consorcio del Desierto” Technological Program that operates in the northern macro-zone.
He also invited producers to participate in the “Great Desert Meeting” that will take place on August 22 and 23 at the Canchones campus of the Arturo Prat University, an event supported by Corfo and executed by Waki Labs.
Jorge Durán, an engineer and agricultural entrepreneur in the Quisma Valley, said: “What we do here is remarkable, because with a lot of effort and applying technologies in irrigation and natural fertilization, we obtain good results in the production of organic dates with Chilean palms, and also in the planting of other species such as the carob tree.”
Cortés also shared information on other subsidies to boost production, such as the Reactivation Support Program (PAR) and Active Investment, available in the call stages. He invited all farmers in the province of Tamarugal to be attentive to the different calls for tenders, including the Bonus for Investment in Extreme Zones (DFL-15).
