Over 80,000 decares of agricultural land were burned

Those affected by the fires in the summer they are farmers compensated with BGN 225,000 state aid de minimis. This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Dr. Georgi Tahov, during his visit to the farm of Nikolay Dobrev in the village of Ravna Gora in Haskovo, which was badly damaged by the fires in the municipality of Svilengrad.

For the restoration of this farm, a commitment was made and an individual de minimis aid of BGN 42,000 was paid, and with the assistance of the “Southeastern State Enterprise” DP – Sliven, 50 cubic meters of construction wood were delivered for the reconstruction of the burned farm buildings. For the farms affected by the fires, the state enterprise will provide a total of 140 cubic meters of large construction wood.

With regard to the financial support for restoring the activities of the affected farms, Minister Takhov specified that farmers with damage to durable tangible assets, including buildings and facilities, are compensated as a priority.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food commented that immediately after the fires in July, he met with farmers from the most affected areas. He recalled that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food helped transport the branch organization United Farmers to distribute the aid collected by sympathetic farmers to the farms affected by the fires for the purpose of feeding the animals.

Subsidies to animal breeders are paid regularly and in a timely manner, this year we are moving without delay according to the indicative schedule we have determined, added Minister Georgi Tahov.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, more than 8,093.22 hectares of agricultural land were burned this year in the country. A letter has been sent to the European Commission requesting the activation of funds from the EU’s agricultural reserve to support farmers affected by the drought and fires.

For 2024, a total of BGN 6 million have been provided for compensation to farmers for damage caused by natural disasters under the state aid scheme “Aid to compensate damage to agricultural crops caused by adverse climatic conditions which can be equated to natural disasters”.
