Producer Vratislav Šlajer: Everything that happens in the series is real

It is a grandiose success. Are you sorry you didn’t experience it in New York?

Of course, we’re a little sorry we couldn’t be there in person, but we made up for it differently. We organized with Mall.tv, which is together with the CZ association. NIC and our company Bionaut producer of the series, live broadcast. We all got tested, followed all the rules and could meet, experience it together. It was nice, we enjoyed it.

It was obvious that the tension could be cut. How much did you trust yourself and what decided the victory?

There were four nominees, so we trusted twenty-five percent. But we were very happy for the nomination. I didn’t feel we didn’t stand a chance, but until the last minute, one can only hope.

I think a topic that is important and a lot of people are interested in the victory. But the same appeared in the Australian nominated series Content. I think it was decided that we treated the topic as a thrilling genre story. We wanted to show that the internet is not bad, the people behind it are bad. And I want to emphasize that everything that happens in the series is absolutely real.

If a filmmaker wants to succeed at the Oscars, he has to do more than just make a film. Arrange screenings, get him to theaters in Los Angeles… How’s Emmy?

We didn’t make special screenings, but we devote a lot of time to festival distribution and foreign sales. I think that worked when it came to deciding on an Emmy.

He won the #martyisdead Award for Best Digital Series at the Austin Film Festival in Texas and the Best Director and Screenplay Award at Marseille Web Fest. At home, he became the best television and internet series at the Pilsen Final, and won the award for the best web series from the Serial Killer festival.

How did the series actually come about?

Director Pavel Soukup wanted to shoot on the topic of addiction and the dangers of the Internet, while Mall.tv was looking for a series for a younger audience. They came together and looked for producers with experience, which we are. And we really liked the fact that Mall.tv wants to do shows just for teenagers. No other television deals with them.

You have already announced the continuation of #Annaismissing. Will you reveal details?

As the name suggests, she will have a new main character, but some characters, such as a police officer or Marty’s parents, will return. We are planning the premiere in the spring of 2021, and if possible, simultaneously on Mall.tv and in cinemas. The basis will be the same, some details will be different and complementary.

But will cinemas be open? As the chairman of the board of directors of the Association of Audiovisual Producers, what do you think about the extension of their closure?

That PES slightly forgot about cinemas. He has brought all cultural events together, but cinemas are different from theaters or concerts and should be specified in the PES. It is not a living culture, cinemas were to be opened in the third degree, when casinos and restaurants can be open in it.

We consider this to be discriminatory. The audiovisual industry, and the word industry I emphasize, is dependent on an awful lot of people. And cinemas are safe. During the summer, according to available information, no source of infection was reported, they are ventilated, they can play three times a day, so they do not have to be sold out so that the traffic pays off even if the distances are observed. And it is extremely problematic that audiovisual is not included in the COVID culture 2 program either.
