The year-on-year rise in prices of industrial producers accelerated to 19.4 percent from 13.2 percent in December and in construction to 8.3 percent from 8.2 percent. Prices of market services for companies were 3.2 percent higher year on year in January, while in December they were 1.7 percent. It emerged from data released today on web Czech Statistical Office (CSO).

Prices also rose month-on-month. In industry, according to the head of the CZSO’s Industrial and Foreign Trade Statistics Department, Vladimír Klimeš, they grew at the fastest pace since February 1991, when they increased by almost seven percent. Compared to December, agricultural producer prices increased by 4.4 percent and construction work rose by 0.5 percent and market services for enterprises by 0.7 percent since the end of last year.

In industry, year-on-year price increases were higher than in January this year, the last time 30 years ago. Higher energy prices in particular had the greatest impact on January’s year-on-year rise. The price of electricity, gas and steam rose by two-fifths compared to January 2021, while electricity alone was half as high. In addition, prices for chemicals were also half as high as a year ago and metals, metal products, wood, paper and printing rose by about a quarter. Prices of food products, water, coke and refined petroleum products also rose. Vehicle prices have fallen.

In the year-on-year comparison, agricultural producer prices rose mainly by a third. In animal production, they were less than eight percent higher. Compared to last January, oilseeds, cereals, potatoes, cattle, milk and eggs were more expensive. On the contrary, fruit and pigs for slaughter became cheaper.

Prices of materials and products for construction were almost a quarter higher year on year. In the area of market services for companies, warehousing and support services in transport and advertising services increased by more than ten percent. Prices were also higher for employment services and for publishing, legal and accounting services.
