Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) – Because he had caused a fatal traffic accident with a semi-trailer truck, a 53-year-old truck driver was warned by the Frankfurt district court on Tuesday. Should he immediately and completely pay a monetary requirement of 300 euros, the imposed fine of 720 euros (90 daily rates) will be waived.

In August 2018, the tug hit a cyclist in a narrow lane in downtown Frankfurt and killed him. Due to various structures and curtains in the driver’s cab, the driver had not seen the 60-year-old man on the bike. The cyclist died at the scene of the accident. According to the judgment, the driver should not have taken over the truck with the confusing superstructure and curtains from his superior. The court rated the driver’s guilt as “minor”, so that a warning with a monetary requirement would be sufficient. The defendant had reported his mental health problems since the accident in court.

The 53-year-old was originally sentenced to 3,000 euros with a fine. Because he has since become unemployed, the amount was reduced. The judgment is final.
