iOS 16 was released on Monday, September 13th and is packed with new features. But such a major update isn’t without its problems. For example, stubborn bugs may be discovered or some new features are experienced as annoying by many people. We list all the iOS 16 problems and give you, if there is one, the solution. And as soon as new problems arise, we will update this article for you!
And the problems of iOS 16? I see iOS 15.7!
Apple has released two updates at the same time: iOS 15.7 and iOS 16. The first is for people who like to stay on iOS 15 but still want to stay up to date on security. The update is also intended for devices that are no longer supported by iOS 16: iPhone 6s (Plus), iPhone 7 (Plus) and first generation iPhone SE.
If you go to the usual place for your updates (Settings> General> Software Update), you will see iOS 15.7 pontificate. And this is a bit confusing. If you want iOS 16, look at the bottom of the page, where you will find the Update to iOS 16 button. Did you accidentally install iOS 15.7? You will also find iOS 16 in “Settings> General> Software Update” at the bottom: unless you have another beta profile installed, you must first remove it in “Settings> General> VPN and Device Manager”.

The first solution to try
We always recommend that you restart your phone first in case of problems. You can do this by holding down the volume up button and the power button at the same time – or just the power button on iPhone models with a home button – and then dragging “power off” to the right. This often solves the problem.

I still lack the features
Not all iPhones get all the new features of iOS 16. Some features are also only available on iPhone 13 and later. Want to know what features your iPhone is missing? Read our article: Your iPhone will not (yet) receive these iOS 16 features.
Additionally, there are other features that Apple has postponed. Think about new emojisthe completely new Free form appfrom Shared iCloud Photo Library in Live activity. These features will come in future temporary updates, such as iOS 16.1 or iOS 16.2.
Why are my notifications so weird?
In iOS 16, notifications are stacked at the bottom of the screen. This means that you always have them in check, but not all of them are fans. While you can’t move notifications up, you can just turn the stack back into an old-fashioned list. Go to “Settings> Notifications” and choose “List” at the top.
I have no battery percentage
There was a lot of buzz on the way back batterijpercentage in iOS 16, but now that the update is here you may not be able to find the option in “Settings> Battery”. You can, because the feature is not supported on iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 11 and iPhone XR. However, there is good news: those models will receive the icon iOS 16.1!
My background is dark and blurry
What’s new in iOS 16 is that the background can be blurred so that your app icons are more visible – this option can be found after setting a new wallpaper in “Adjust Home Screen> Blur”.
But some people also see a blurry and dark lock screen. This has to do with focusing and therefore usually with Do Not Disturb mode. Go to “Settings> Focus> Do Not Disturb> Options” and make sure “Blank Screen Lock” is off – your lock screen will stay sharp!
That awesome depth effect doesn’t work
The new ‘pimpable’ lock screen it is for most people the functionality of iOS 16. But the depth effect, where time is slightly behind an object or person in your photo, you might not make it work on its own.
You are not alone: we also have difficulties in this in the editorial office. It is difficult to estimate which photos will or will not, but it is still important that there is enough space above the object or person. Other than that it’s just trial and error: try it with as many images as possible.
Horizontal face ID not working
Hey, Face ID wouldn’t work even if you hold your iPhone horizontally? You are right. But only on iPhone 13 (mini) and iPhone 13 Pro (Max).

The search function is gone!
With iOS 15 it was still possible to search iPhone via the leftmost page of the home screen. That search feature is no longer there, but you can access it in two other ways: by tapping “Search” at the bottom of the home screen or by dragging the entire home screen down.
The App Store is misbehaving
During the first few hours after iOS 16 was released, the App Store ran into problems. New terms had to be accepted to update the apps, but the update still didn’t work. Fortunately, this turned out to be an Apple server-side glitch and has since been fixed. You may need to log into the Store again several times, after which everything will work normally again.
My battery is draining very fast!
It’s an annual complaint – your iPhone’s battery runs out very quickly after updating to a new iOS version. There is a reason for this though: your phone is busy running background tasks that complete the update. So this is temporary.
You might also be a little busier with your phone at first due to all the new features and now you have a percentage of the battery that you see ticking back to enhance the effect. So wait and see – there’s a good chance your battery life will soon return to normal.
An app crashed
Not all apps are ready for the new version on the day of the iOS release date. As a result, you can come across apps that crash. Developers usually quickly release updates for their apps that fix this, so check the App Store regularly to see if the app in question already has an update.
The My Home app no longer works
The Home app works differently in iOS 16 than it did before. If you want to turn on a device, now you need to tap the icon (left in the button). If you tap the button in the center or right, you get advanced controls.
Where is the update for the iPad?
The iPad will not receive an update to version 16.0, but will be updated to 16.1 when the time comes! Problems with the new Stage Manager feature delayed the iPadOS update until the end of the year. Until then, you can only update to iPadOS 15.7. There is no need to upgrade to 16.1 at a later time.
