Problems registration CoronaCheck app not yet solved

With a QR code in the CoronaCheck-app people can access events and locations. They can also travel to other EU countries with the code, the Digital Corona Certificate (DCC). A green tick in the app can be obtained after a full vaccination, or with a valid negative test result or a herstelbewijs. The latter shows that someone has been infected with corona in the past six months and has recovered.

But some people who have already been fully vaccinated still fail to get a green tick in the app. This is the result of several problems with the registrations of the corona vaccines. Solutions are still being sought. The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport speaks of “open issues with registered data”. The ministry does not yet know exactly how many people in total are affected by the registration problems.

The ministry does say that one specific problem around misregistrations of people with a double vaccination “could theoretically affect 80,000 people”.

6.9 million downloads

The Coronacheck app has now been downloaded 6.9 million times, the ministry says. In total, 12.7 million proofs (DCCs) have been issued with the app. How many of these are vaccination certificates, recovery certificates and test certificates, the ministry has yet to find out.

Misbruik screenshots QR-codes

The CoronaCheck app will soon also receive some adjustments that will make it less easy to access locations or events with a screenshot of a QR code of another person. Outgoing minister Hugo de Jonge writes that in his letter to the House of Representatives. “To improve ticket control when entering the event, the QR code of the CoronaCheck app will refresh faster and the interactive moving element will become more visible, which should prevent the use of screenshots.”

‘Mystery guests’ will also be used to “monitor whether corona tickets are properly checked”. De Jonge: “Monitoring and signaling should make it possible to conduct more targeted conversations with industry associations and to supervise and, if necessary, to attach consequences to this.”

The app update with the changes to the QR code must appear ‘before August 14’, according to a spokesperson for the ministry.

Test positive after green tick

The cabinet will also decide next week what should happen if people later test positive for the corona virus despite their vaccination. Anyone who has received a vaccination certificate in the CoronaCheck app will keep the green tick. There is currently no validity period attached to it.

As a result, someone who has tested positive for corona can still visit an event or go on holiday to other EU countries. “We are looking at how we can improve this. A decision will be announced at the press moment on August 13,” the ministry said earlier.
