The German armed forces will mobilize 12,000 troops by the end of the year to provide civilian aid amid the fourth wave of the pandemic, Der Spiegel reported.
It is assumed that the reservists will provide logistical assistance in the process of revaccination, testing, if necessary, will build temporary hospitals and provide transport services. Six thousand servicemen are planned to be mobilized by the end of November, and as many more will be mobilized by Christmas. There is no official confirmation of this information.
The Bundeswehr has already provided civil assistance during the second and third waves.
In Germany, the number of people infected with coronavirus has been growing rapidly in recent weeks. The main seven-day morbidity rate has reached 277 infected per 100,000 people in the last 24 hours, 45,000 new cases and 228 deaths have been registered. Authorities impose restrictions on those who refuse to be vaccinated.
