Dresden Titans win against Ahorn Camp BIS Baskets Speyer with 87:70 (33:22, 22:17, 17:22, 15: 9) | Dresden’s basket hunters celebrate their 13th win of the season in the BARMER 2. Basketball Bundesliga
Speyer, 25.02.2021 – The Dresden Titans managed a brilliant 87:70 away win in their catch-up game against the Ahorn Camp BIS Baskets Speyer. In doing so, they return the favor for the unfortunate home defeat against Speyer two weeks ago (72:83). After just eight minutes of play, Dresden’s basket hunters were leading in double digits and were always ahead with at least 11, and in the meantime even with 20 points, for the remainder of the game. One of the most appealing offensive performances of the season so far, helped the “Titans” to their 13th success in the 17th game and made them move up to second place in the overall standings of the ProB southern season. However, there is hardly any time to take a breather and celebrate. From the Rhineland, the journey continues directly to Ulm, where the talents of the OrangeAcademy are waiting on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
The game – The game started offensively on a very high level. Above all, the Titans fired from all cylinders and were successful several times from a distance over Lenny Larysz, Georg Voigtmann and Bryan Nießen. In addition, there were some spectacular finishes above ring level by Arne Wendler, Voigtmann and the flying in Julius Stahl in the Fast Break. On the hosts’ side, top scorer Darian Cardenas was the driving force with nine points. With the siren, Speyer’s Bertram Lind happily shortened to 22:33 with Brettdreier. The “Titans” didn’t seem to be unsettled by anything that evening. The guests appeared as if unleashed, met more threesomes over Kirchner, Larysz and Georg Kupke, who was finally able to achieve his long-awaited first ProB points. Afterwards, 19-year-old Bela Wenczel also demonstrated the athletic abilities of the Dresden youngsters in a cracking alley-oop-dunk. As a team, the Saxons hit eight of eleven long-range throws and ended the half-time with the most points of their season so far with 55:39!
After the interruption, it was clear to the hosts that they didn’t want to be shown in their own house. Above all, Cardenas showed his entire repertoire on the offensive, scored after beefy drives on the board, but also very smoothly from the outside. The Titans continued to score points thanks to the outstanding Larysz and the committed rebounding Wendler. The very clear dominance from the first half was lost a little. And Lind of all people hit the siren again for three, this time even without a board. Nevertheless, the “Elbe giants” retained a comfortable 72:61 lead before the final section. At the start of the last quarter, Wendler, Wenczel and Nießen then initiated a 6-0 run, again ensuring very clear conditions and forcing BIS Baskets coach Carl Mbassa to take a break. But the mortgage of the always double-digit arrears noticeably drained the hosts, who didn’t seem to have any compelling answers to the Dresden team and especially Larysz that evening. Every bit of hope, like a threesome by Tim Schwartz in the 36th minute, was immediately nipped in the bud by a suitable response from Dresden – in that case it was Wenczel who immediately added it from the outside and thus his new ProB career high (seven points) cemented. When the score was 87:70, the game ended with a deserved victory for the Titans.
Vote for the game – For Dresden’s head coach Fabian Strauss it was clear after the final whistle that his team had shown a strong performance. “In the first half in particular, it was one of the best offensively this season, without question. We decided quickly and well and took the open throws with confidence. Especially for our young players like Georg [Kupke] and Bela, I am pleased that they were able to make their contribution today and have delivered. “
When asked about Saturday, Strauss would like more of his Titans’ basketball today. “If we are as present, alert and active in the field as we are today, then we need not be afraid of anyone. We have to treat the young Ulm talents aggressively in defense from the start and show them that we want to win there too. “
