Two “pro-Russian” politicians from Ukraine were killed on Wednesday, only a few hours apart.
Illia Kyva was found dead in a suburb near the Russian capital Moscow. Kyva is said to have been shot, according to the Russian investigation. It reports The Moscow Times, via AFP.
Kyva previously sat in the Ukrainian parliament, but is said to have been fired after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. In November, Kyva was sentenced to 14 years in prison for treason and attempting to overthrow the government. It writes Newsweek.

Sources from Ukraine’s defense sector claim to AFP that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) must have been behind the assassination. A spokesman for Ukrainian military intelligence, Andriy Yusov commented on Kyva’s death in a conversation with Ukrainian Public Broadcasting:
– We can confirm that Kyva is finished. Such a fate will befall other traitors in Ukraine, as well as the henchmen of the Putin regime.

Car explosion
In the same period, Oleg Popov, a former representative of the parliament of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) was killed in a car explosion. It is confirmed by law enforcement agencies above TASS, Russian state-owned media.
The Moscow Times also mentioned the matter.
Yuri Yurov, deputy of the LPR, reportedly confirmed Popo’s death on Telegram.
– As a result of a car explosion near the Avangard stadium in Lugansk, our colleague, deputy of the People’s Council ii LPR… a member of the People’s Militia of Donbas, who stood up for the defense of the republic from the very beginning, Oleg Nikolaevich Popov, is dead, Yurov wrote.

Lugansk was occupied and recognized by Russia in the fall of 2022. Popov is said to have been a defender of the breakaway republic.
Ukrainian intelligence has not claimed responsibility for the explosion.
