Pro-Palestinian Demonstrators Disrupt Kongsberg Gruppen Event at Munch Museum in Oslo

On Thursday evening, the company held an event in the iconic art museum located on Bjørvika in Oslo. Several pro-Palestinian demonstrators had caught wind of this, and several marched towards the Munch Museum, where they intended to show their anger towards Kongsberg Gruppen’s employees.

– There were around 20 people who turned up. The Munch Museum is generally open to everyone, but in part of the building the Kongsberg Gruppen had their event. It was an engaged group that wanted to get in to the event. The police met the assembly, and it was agreed to end the demonstration after dialogue with us. They were led down to the first floor, where they were allowed to stand for another ten minutes. After this, everyone left together, says operations manager Bjørn Gunnar Nysæter to Nettavisen.

Ample atmosphere

Nysæter also states that the guards on the spot did not have an easy job of removing the protesters.

– A somewhat tense atmosphere between the guards and the group was described in the report to the police. The police experienced a decent dialogue with the group after we arrived. No one is injured, says the operations manager.

Not the first time

However, it is not the first time pro-Palestinian demonstrators have demonstrated against the Norwegian arms manufacturer. At the beginning of December, a large group disrupted Kongsberg Gruppen’s Christmas party.

“You have blood on your hands”, was the message from the demonstrators to the Norwegian arms manufacturer.

– It is true that a Christmas party for employees in one of our companies was disrupted by protesters on Friday, confirmed Ronny Lie, director of communications at Kongsberg Gruppen, in an SMS to Nettavisen.

He reacted to the method.

– We have freedom of speech in Norway, but it is more orderly to use the legal and democratic channels we have for speech and not try to destroy events for employees, he said.
