Pro Evolution Soccer will change its name and become free – Observer

Konami’s “Pro Evolution Soccer” (PES) video game series will change its name, the company announced on Wednesday. The competitor of “Fifa” was renamed “eFootball” and is now “free-to-play“. In other words, similarly to games like “Fortnite” or “Rocket League”, it will be possible to play for free on most platforms (consoles, smartphones and computers). New version will arrive “in the fall”.

In release, Konami claims that eFootball “is a new global brand for a global audience” and that it will only be available in digital format. In addition, the game will use Unreal Engine, one of the most popular software among video game industry producers.

Thanks to the highly evolved football game engine, the animation system has also been revised,” says Konami.

According to the company, teams like “FC Barcelona, Juventus, FC Bayern, Manchester United and others will be available, free of charge, at launch”. However, “in the future, certain game modes” will be sold separately in “DLC” format (acronyms for “Downloadable Content“, “downloadable content”, in Portuguese), advances the videogame producer.

Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr., will be the “global ambassadors for eFootball”. Furthermore, Konami reveals that footballers Andrés Iniesta and Gerard Piqué “were intimately involved in the development as official advisors for offensive and defensive gameplay, respectively”.

After launching in the autumn, and until the end of winter, “eFootball” will gain several features, such as the possibility of playing online matches between different platforms, a “create your own team” mode and sports game tournaments.

The first game with the name “Pro Evolution Soccer” was released in 2001. However, at the time, this was the title given only in Europe. In other regions, such as Asia, the video game was called “World Soccer”. The last “PES” launched was PES2020, which came out in September 2019.
