Private universities – Parliament: Which parties filed an objection of unconstitutionality – 2024-03-07 20:40:26

Application unconstitutionality on the part concerning Legal Entities of University Education, the SYRIZA Parliamentary Group testified, at the beginning of the debate in the plenary session of the bill of the Ministry of Education, Religions and Sports entitled “Strengthening of the Public University – Framework for the operation of non-profit branches of foreign universities”.

As the parliamentary representative of the official opposition party Th. Tzakri said, in violation of Article 16 of the Constitutionthe envisaged Legal Entities of University education are Legal Entities of Private Law and not of Public Law, while the relevant articles do not ensure the academic self-governance of the NNPEs, provide for different access conditions for students in the NNPEs compared to public universities, and do not contain guarantees in favor of the teachers of NPPE.

An objection of unconstitutionality was also filed by the KKE, Hellenic Solution and KO “Niki”.

In his intervention, the parliamentary representative of the New Left, Evkl. Tsakalotos, proposed to PASOK, SYRIZA, KKE, and Pleusi Eleftherias, “to submit, jointly, a motion of no confidence”.

The debate on the request for unconstitutionality will be held after the positions of the parties’ rapporteurs on the bill.
