Only with the votes of the ND MPs, but also of the former MP of the Spartans and now an independent, Charalambos Katsivardas, the bill bypassing Article 16 of the Constitution with the establishment of private Universities was “passed” amid strong reactions from the student community.
The opposition parties voted against the bill in principle, except for the Spartans who declared themselves “present”. A total of 159 MPs voted in favor of the bill, 129 “against”, while 11 declared themselves “present”.
At the same time, in the roll-call vote on the articles, SYRIZA and PASOK voted in favor of articles related to public universities. Specifically, the official opposition voted “yes” on 6 articles and the amendment on the student housing allowance, 131 voted against and declared “present” on 46.
It should be noted that great difficulty was allegedly faced by Zoe Konstantopoulou and three other parliamentarians of Plefsis Eleftherias in the roll-call vote, as for about two hours the president of the ninth party was left alone in the Plenary together with Alexandros Kazamias, Eleni Karageorgopoulou and Georgia Kefala in order to be able to vote, which was commented on by employees of the Parliament as a cap.
