Private space cargo riveted to space station ISS

A private space cargo launched more than two days ago was linked to the International Space Station on Monday, the US space agency NASA has announced.

Launched by a Northrop Grumman Antaras launch vehicle from Wallops Island off the coast of the US state of Virginia, the same company’s Cygnus arrived at its destination, the ISS, on Monday. At 11.31 a.m. Belgian time, astronaut Chris Cassidy picked the unmanned spacecraft from space with the Canadian robotic arm of the spacemeccano as both spaceships were flying over Egypt.

The flight control on the ground then took control of the robot to transfer the Cygnus to the Unity module of the ISS. At 2:01 pm, the cargo launched on behalf of NASA was attached to that American module.

The rig will hang there until mid-December. The Cygnus carried nearly four tons of payload for the residents of the ISS, including a new toilet.
