Tragedy struck on Interstate 75 in Naples, Florida, when a private jet crashed, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving three survivors. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has identified the occupants of the small jet as Sydney Ann Bosmans, Aaron Baker, Audra Green, Edward Daniel Murphy, and Ian Hofmann. Sydney Ann Bosmans, 27, hailing from Jupiter, Florida, along with Aaron Baker, 35, and Audra Green, 23, both from Columbus, Ohio, were treated for their injuries at a local hospital.
A witness captured a video showing the three survivors walking away from the wreckage, providing a glimmer of hope amidst the tragedy. Sadly, the pilot, Edward Daniel Murphy, 50, from Oakland Park, and the co-pilot, Ian Hofmann, 65, from Pompano Beach, did not survive the crash. Moments before the accident occurred, the crew reported a dual engine failure, leaving them with no choice but to attempt an emergency landing on the highway.
The Hop-a-Jet charter company at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport released a statement expressing their awareness of the accident involving one of their leased aircraft near Naples. They assured the public that they would dispatch a team to the crash site to gather information and investigate the incident further.
The National Transportation Safety Administration (NTSA) has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the private jet’s emergency landing attempt on I-75. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the aircraft involved was a Bombardier Challenger 600 jet. The plane had departed from an airport at Ohio State University in Columbus at approximately 1 p.m. and was scheduled to land in Naples around the time of the crash.
In light of this devastating event, the family of co-pilot Ian Hofmann shared their grief and admiration for their loved one’s heroic actions. They revealed that Ian remained calm while communicating with air traffic control, desperately trying to save the passengers and crew despite the dire circumstances. Chris Hofmann, Ian’s son, also spoke fondly of his father’s bravery. He described him as a hero who successfully guided the plane to the ground, ultimately saving the lives of the passengers and flight attendant. Chris mentioned that his father resided in Pompano Beach with his wife and highlighted Ian’s extensive experience, totaling over 40 years and 25,000 flight hours with Piedmont, US Airways, and Hop-A-Jet.
Fortunately, all occupants of the vehicles involved in the crash survived. The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that none of the individuals in the cars sustained life-threatening injuries. State troopers and emergency crews are working tirelessly to clean up the crash site on southbound I-75, resulting in the closure of the affected area.
