In the USA, a private jet, carrying a dozen illegal immigrants, landed this Monday, June 5 in Sacramento, California. This is the second time this has happened in 48 hours. The current Republican Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, has chosen to send these migrants back to these democratic neighborssuch as California.
More than two million people from Latin America crossed the border last year. This “punch” method of the candidate for the Republican Party primaries aims to protest against the record influx in recent months. Ron DeSantis says he wants to ease the pressure on his constituents in Florida. However, his state does not have a common border with Mexico and it is not the most affected by these influxes.
So Ron DeSantis sends some of these migrants, who are awaiting settlement, to the Democratic states. His Republican counterparts in Texas and Arizona are doing the same. More than 13,000 illegal immigrants were deported on 300 buses to Chicago, New York or New England to denounce the lack of action by the Biden administration.
Sending these two private jets is an extra step. On the Washington side, there are cries of political brilliance. Republican states may also have forgotten to mention the cost of these operations to taxpayers. Last year, Texas paid $12 million for these shipments. The cost and the impact on the planet could become more significant if these transports multiply in the months to come.
