Central Lombok, NTB (ANTARA) – Head of Langko Community Health Center, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Andri Eka Kurnia said that private collaboration, such as the Save the Children Indonesia Foundation and Charles Monat Associates, is helping the government reduce pneumonia cases in children, especially under 5 years of age.
The reason is, he said that the pilot project initiated by the Save the Children Indonesia Foundation not only provides education about the symptoms and treatment of pneumonia, but also supporting tools for examining children for respiratory tract infections.
“Since Save the Children Indonesia existed in 2021, we have been greatly helped in detecting and treating pneumonia cases in children so that now the death rate due to these cases has clearly decreased,” said Andri Eka Kurnia in Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, on Tuesday.
In raising public awareness in Central Lombok Regency regarding the early symptoms of pneumonia, he said that his party received acceleration through educational training provided by Save the Children Indonesia to 1100 posyandu cadres.
A total of 1,100 posyandu cadres, he continued, have received training to provide comprehensive and effective education regarding pneumonia, both carried out centrally at posyandu and visiting each resident’s home.
Because of this education, he added that people in Central Lombok Regency are now actively checking themselves at the nearest health service when they experience a cough and fever for more than three days, especially if it is experienced by children.
In this way, his party can more quickly handle the findings of pneumonia cases which are examined directly by sufferers, thereby minimizing the death rate due to this disease.
