Privacy concerns with WhatsApp storing unsolicited photos on my phone – ways to opt-out and improve compression algorithm

Hopefully it will also become optional to receive.
Think it’s a misery that WA stores all incoming photos (unsolicited) on my phone.
Funny photos from group apps, photos of children from this and that, screenshots of ‘help my device do this, you work in IT so how do I solve this?

Continues to mop a bit with the tap open.
-edit- @ below, glad it seems to be possible. Will look for it again. Unable to discover so far.

I also hope they improve the compression algorithm.
You can send a photo in 4K pixel size, but if the compression is too high, it will still look substandard (as is often the case).

As a photographer, I regularly get the question whether I can download a photo from my DSLR to my phone and then transfer it via WA, so that it can be online immediately.
The above quality explanation is often not understood, via e-mail or WeTransfer is then again ‘difficult’ for a quick action.
