Prison Architect 2 has been delayed for the second time since its launch in January. The game was originally supposed to launch on March 26, but was later pushed back to May. Publisher Paradox Interactive has now confirmed that the game will launch on September 3rd.
In a statement, the publisher writes that they have decided to delay the game after stability was affected by memory usage issues.
“We recently ran some stability tests on our latest version of the game and noticed unexpected issues happening too often, especially on low-spec configurations,” Paradox said in a statement to Eurogamer. “As soon as we identified the issue, we started working on improving Prison Architect 2’s memory usage to mitigate the situation. To a large extent, the work has been successful, and we have seen improvements on certain devices and consoles.
“Unfortunately, with such a rework, some new technical challenges appeared, as the number of crashes increased significantly on other PC configurations. We started to address this immediately, but it took time away from our main goal in this last phase of development, as we had to shift resources from tweaking the game to handling the crashes.
“While a version of our game is currently tested on all platforms and ready for launch, the new system for memory usage will greatly improve the gaming experience,” concluded Paradox. “With the legacy of Prison Architect and the passionate community behind it, we want to deliver the best possible sequel to such a beloved game, and we won’t take any shortcuts.”
