Prioritize Privacy, WhatsApp will Hide Online and Last Seen Status to Strangers

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – WhatsApp has again updated its features, including the Last Seen feature or last seen and Online status, to prioritize the privacy of its users.

Both of these features will be hidden from foreign contacts automatically default automatic aliases. This update is made to help users maintain privacy and prevent third-party apps from tracking WhatsApp users.

“To improve the privacy and security of our users, we make it difficult for people you don’t know and haven’t chatted with by last seen and attendance online You’re on WhatsApp,” WhatsApp said in a statement Nairametrics, Tuesday (11/1/2022).

“This won’t change anything between you and the friends, family or businesses you know or have messaged before.”

Previously, WhatsApp set this feature as Everyone. So, all WhatsApp users, including unknown contacts, can see the status online and last seen.

The latest update now only limits the status display online and last seen to saved contacts or My Contacts.

As update, this Online and Last Seen hide status feature is still being developed in beta and will be released publicly soon.

Later, users can hide their latest status from anyone, including people in the contact list.
