Prioritize Dairy Cows When the PMK Vaccine Is Available

DRINGU, Radar Bromo – Cattle farmers in Probolinggo Regency are now waiting for the mouth and nail disease (PMK) vaccine. The Probolinggo Regency Government is also still waiting for his arrival. Moreover, livestock that are exposed to FMD cases are increasingly widespread.

If the PMK vaccine arrives, the district government will prioritize dairy cows. Considering that the loss of dead dairy cows is much greater than that of beef cattle.

This was conveyed by the Young Veterinary Medical Officer of the Probolinggo Regency Agriculture Service, drh. Nikolas Nuryulianto. When confirmed, Nikolas said that the number of cattle in Probolinggo Regency exposed to FMD continued to increase. His party has submitted data on vaccine needs according to the number of dairy cows in Probolinggo Regency. That is about 8,164 tails. This is because the first PMK vaccine will be prioritized for dairy cow vaccines.

“The first PMK vaccine will be aimed at dairy cows first. We have proposed the need for a dairy cow vaccine,” he said Java Post Radar Bromo, Friday (10/6).

Nikolas explained that 3 million PMK vaccines will come throughout Indonesia, with priority for dairy cows. Nah, in East Java later, when the FMD vaccine has arrived, it will be prioritized first on the 4 areas where there are outbreaks of FMD cases. Namely Lamongan, Mojokerto, Gresik and Sidoarjo.

Furthermore, it is given to areas that have dairy cows. One of them is Probolinggo Regency which has more than 8 thousand dairy cows. Only after that, the FMD vaccine was continued for beef cattle.

“Prioritize dairy cows first for PMK vaccine. Because, the loss of dairy cows is many times that of beef cattle. We have proposed more than 8 thousand PMK vaccines. We don’t know how many doses we will get, we are still waiting,” he explained.
