Dhe American elite university Princeton wants to remove the name of the former president Woodrow Wilson from his institute for political science. Due to his “racist politics and racist attitudes”, Wilson was an “inappropriate” eponym for an institute whose teachers, students and alumni should resolutely devote themselves to the fight against racism, the university said on Saturday.
Wilson headed the United States from 1913 to 1921. On his initiative the founding of the League of Nations, the predecessor of the United Nations, goes back, abroad he also stands for the end of America’s isolationism.
Domestically, he supported segregation in the southern states and allowed the ministries in Washington to separate black and white employees. After decades of racial integration, Wilson had once again caused racial segregation in the public service, thereby throwing back “America in its pursuit of justice”, Princeton President Christopher Eisgruber said.
