On the first Christmas day, Ari Behn, the ex-husband of Princess Märtha Louise, committed suicide. A week and a half later, her new friend reports on the writer’s death.
The death notice from Ari Behn The Norwegian royal family shook on Christmas Day: the author, who had been married to Princess Märtha Louise for 15 years, had put an end to his own life at the age of 47.
Funeral service in Oslo
A week later took place in the cathedral Oslo a funeral service was held for the former member of the royal family. Family and friends traveled to the Norwegian capital, the Royals also appeared for the memorial service. King Harald and Queen Sonja came together with Princess Märtha Louise and her three children. Only Durek Verrett, the princess’s new partner, was missing on January 3. The shaman stayed away from the funeral service.
The 45-year-old speaks for the first time two days later. “Out of deep respect for Märthas and Aris children, I will not comment on their father’s death, either now or later, except that I am incredibly sad about their loss,” he wrote on Instagram.

Durek Verrett has officially been the new friend alongside Princess Märtha Louise since May 2019. “He changed my life,” the princess wrote on Instagram at the time. Crown Prince Haakon’s sister had previously been married to Ari Behn for 15 years. In 2002 the couple said yes. In August 2016, the Norwegian royal family announced the separation. The divorce followed the following year.
“Nobody can ever replace you”
A few hours after the funeral service, she had also commented on the death of her ex-husband. Ari Behn left an emptiness. “Nobody can ever replace you for our beautiful girls,” she wrote on Instagram.
